Park City Performing Arts Foundation (PCPAF) is proud to announce its eighth season of outdoor concerts at Deer Valley Resort. The 2012 St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights Summer Concert series will include sizzling music once again.  Two shows are currently confirmed for the upcoming season at will be held at the Snow Park Amphitheater at Deer Valley Resort.

Friday, July 13th
New Orleans sould and jazz will flavor when Grammy Award-winning singer Aaron Neville and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band perform.

Sunday, August 5th
Roger Hodgson, the voice of multi-platinum-selling band Supertramp will take the stage.

CONCERT DETAILS

The St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights Series, presented by PCPAF, runs from July through September at Deer Valley Resort’s Snow Park Amphitheater. Tickets go on sale Monday, May 9th at 12 p.m. in the Box Office at The George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Center for the Performing Arts (1750 Kearns Blvd., Park City) and Deer Valley Signatures or Etc. stores (located on Main Street and at Deer Valley Resort – please call for store hours – 435-649-1000).

Tickets available for sale online at EcclesCenter.org beginning Wednesday, May 11th.

Gates open 90-minutes before show time. Coolers are permitted and a nine-inch chair height restriction (i.e. you shouldn’t be able to roll a basketball under the seat) is enforced. The Hills Are AliveCome to Park City for its renowned Summer Music Festival of chamber, classic and pop music at venues throughout the area. The festival presents world-class music – all within proximity to the city’s luxury lodging, sup…erb restaurants, fun shopping, top art galleries, serene spas and a mountain of outdoor activities. You may attend a concert at Deer Valley’s Snow Park Lodge and, in the tradition of summer concerts all over America, you’ll spread a blanket on the grass along with a few thousand others and proceed to open your bottle of bubbly.  Somehow a blanket-on-grass concert just isn’t the same without wine, cheese and a baguette, right?  A hootenanny good time is yours!

You may also spend a memorable evening at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, an exquisite edifice with luminous blue stained-glass windows and a majestic alter-surround that seems to reach heavenward.  The setting is ideal for a concert that was performed last year called Italian Elegance.  David Lockington conducted the Utah Symphony in Italian baroque favorites including Boccherini, Vivaldi and Rossini.

The final concert is always a true grand finale: the rousing, cannon-ball firing, stand-up-and-cheer 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky.  Once more the suave David Lockington will conduct the world-class Utah Symphony.  At concert’s end, perhaps one doesn’t leave humming this tune, but for certain, everyone leaves with wide and happy smiles. This year, the Park City Chamber Music Society presents its 28th Annual Summer Music Festival which will run from July 12  through August 6; its concert calendar lineup is in the process of being prepared (www.pcmusicfestival.com).

Not to be outdone, New Yorkers have their very own host of summer music festivals.  There’s Celebrate Brooklyn! at the Prospect Park Band Shell from Friday, June 10 through Sunday, August 6.  The River to River Festival is held in Downtown Manhattan from Sunday, June 19 through Saturday, July 16, and of course there’s SummerStage, held at Citywide venues, from Tuesday, June 7 through Friday, September 2. Between the Notes

Your interludes, when not concert-going, will allow you to experience the other resorts in Park City.  Take a scenic lift ride up to the top of the Deer Valley Resort and photograph the entire valley spread out below. Later visit the Park City Museum with its new         $8 Million renovation and exhibits that trace this city’s silver mining history. Check out the Park City Mountain Resort and sample two of their fabulous rides: The Alpine Coaster and the Alpine Slide, both thrilling and kinda heart-stopping. However, as each ride comes to an end and once you catch your breath you’ll quickly ask, “Can I go again?”

Canyons Resortis the largest resort in Utah.  Countless outdoor activities, from hiking, mountain biking and even fishing keep you happily occupied in summer.  Winter enthusiasts will be glad to know the resort has 4,000 acres of skiable terrain and a welcome addition to freezing your  — off as you sit on a cold metal ski lift: Canyons now offers something called the Orange Bubble Express– enclosed and with (yay!) heated seats.

A visit to Utah Olympic Park is a must.  It celebrates Utah’s hosting of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and its museum is chock full of fascinating skiing and Olympic history.  The park has some singularly scary but very safe rides including the Comet Bobsled, the Quicksilver Alpine Slide and an Ultra Zip Line. If you visit in summer, try to go on a Saturday because that’s when they present the Flying Ace All-Stars Freestyle Show with wet-suit-clad Olympians and Olympic hopefuls skiing down ramps and soaring 60 feet in the air as they perform thrilling aerial tricks and then landing in a 750,000 gallon splash pool.

From Silver Mines to Gold Medals

A bandana on a stick marked the discovery of silver in Park City by prospecting soldiers in 1868, fueling a boomtown economy that thrived for nearly a century.  From those rowdy beginnings, mining gave way to burgeoning ski resorts in the 1960s.  In the 1970s, the arts became the town’s other defining feature.  Bodacious boutiques and artsy stuff sprang up as well as seriously good restaurants and a string of spirited watering holes.  In today’s Park City, the riches lie above ground and the prospects are looking good!

luxury condo. 2 adult couples and 3 children enjoyed the layout of this
exclusive ski in-ski out retreat. Well appointed and very comfortable. Would
add a gas grill and window coverings on the master suite door to balcony. Would
stay here again and recommend this to friends but not with small children in
loft. Ski accomodations are the best. Our third trip to condos on this ski run
and it is the best we have experienced anywhere. Loved it.

SPRING GRÜV: POND SKIMMING CONTEST & LITTLE FEAT CONCERT

Our annual Pond Skimming Contest will be the first event of
Spring Grüv. It’s one of those traditions that has been wild from the
start. The Pond Skimming Contest is Canyons’ most popular party and is the true
indicator that spring has arrived. Contestants must dress in costume (the
funkier the better) as they attempt to cross a 100-foot pond on skis or a
snowboard. The pond and the excitement happen at mid-mountain just outside Red
Pine Lodge. Must be 10 years of age or older to enter.

Registration
will be 100% pre-registration only. All forms must be completed and sent in by
Monday, March 19th at 5:00pm.

Spectators will need a lift or gondola
ticket to watch.

Then, hit up the Resort Village for a live concert by
American rock band Little
Feat in the Resort Village at 3:00pm.

NOTE: No outside
alcohol is allowed in for our spring concerts. We will have food and beverage
options available in the Resort Village, so don’t worry! And, please
carpool.

Info on Little Feat:
Little Feat is an American rock band
formed by singer-songwriter, lead vocalist and guitarist Lowell George and
keyboardist Bill Payne in 1969 in Los Angeles. From then on, their
unconventional signature of earthy, organic appeal and polished, first-rate
musicianship wrapped around eclectic and memorable songs-clearly delivered as an

mid-mountain Zip Tour. The Red Pine Zip Tour will take you on an 800 foot long
tree top ride through the Red Pine Lodge area. The Lookout Zip Tour flies you
across the canyon between Lookout Peak and Red Pine Lodge spanning over 2,111
feet. Zip Tour tickets can be purchased at any Ticket Office at the resort or at
the Ski & Snowboard School Kiosk located mid-mountain across from the Red
Pine Lodge.
